The liturgy is an act of praise and thanksgiving required by our baptismal vows to be
offered to the glory of God. The role of the choir, musicians, priests and other ministers
is to offer these prayers and to teach and inspire the community at Saint Thomas' to do
likewise. The liturgy is a sublime offering of ourselves, our souls and bodies to the
Creator and Redeemer.
The Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the central act of worship on the Lord's Day and
other Festivals, is the center of our Baptismal life in Jesus. At the Eucharist, we, the
people of God, offer prayers, but more importantly, await the gifts of the Holy Spirit,
through God's Word and his Holy Communion, so that we can minister to others in God's name.
The Celebration of the Holy Eucharist is a beautiful gift of tradition and divine
inspiration. This beauty is enhanced by the ministry of the choirs and musicians of this
parish church. Beautifying, educating and leading the community in prayer is the purpose
of all liturgical, and especially musical, ministry in the church. Commitment to our Lord
Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior, is the first obligation of any musician in the liturgy.
The Anglican Tradition is rich with mystery and splendor from times past and
present. At Saint Thomas' the catholic, evangelical and charismatic traditions
of the Episcopal Church are represented in a variety of forms.
